Steady decrease in number of bankruptcies

The number of bankruptcies is still declining. In the third quarter of 2011, 934 bankruptcies were registered. This is a drop of 1.6 per cent compared with the same quarter last year.

The largest decline in both absolute figures and in percentage terms was in the county of Nord-Trøndelag, with 55 per cent or 17 fewer bankruptcies. Buskerud was the county with the highest increase, with 61 per cent or 22 more bankruptcies.

Most in wholesale and construction

Seven out of ten bankruptcies, a total of 677, were related to enterprises (excl. sole proprietorships). Almost a third of these were in wholesale and retail trade. The remaining 257 bankruptcies were related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. A third were in construction.

In the first three quarters of 2011, the total number of bankruptcies was 3 271. This is a decline of 4 per cent compared with the same period last year.
