Continued decline in bankruptcies
In the fourth quarter of 2012, the number of bankruptcies went down compared with the same quarter in 2011. In 2012 as a whole, fewer bankruptcies were registered than the year before.
The total number of bankruptcies in 2012 was 3 814, which is a decline of 12.4 per cent, or 541 fewer bankruptcies compared with 2011. The largest decline in percentage terms was in the county of Hedmark, with 37 fewer bankruptcies. Akershus was the county with the largest drop in absolute figures, with a total of 135 fewer bankruptcies.
Seven out of ten bankruptcies - a total of 2 763 - were related to enterprises (except sole proprietorships). This is a decrease of 13 per cent. Almost one third of these enterprises were in wholesale and retail trade.
The remaining 1 051 bankruptcies were related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. Compared with 2011, this number fell by 11 per cent. One out of three sole proprietorships that went bankrupt last year were in construction.
In the fourth quarter of 2012, the total number of bankruptcies was 999. This is a decline of 7.8 per cent compared with the same quarter the year before.
