Increase in number of bankruptcies
After a continuous decrease over the last three years, bankruptcies went up by 10 per cent in the first quarter of this year compared with the same quarter of last year. The total number of bankruptcies was 1 184.

The largest increase in percentage terms was in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, with 86 per cent more bankruptcies. Oslo was the county with the largest rise in absolute figures, with a total of 32 more bankruptcies. In the counties of Finnmark, Troms, Vestfold, Vest-Agder, Nord-Trøndelag and Buskerud the number of bankruptcies went down.
Seven out of ten bankruptcies, a total of 836, were related to enterprises (except sole proprietorships). One third of these enterprises were in wholesale and retail trade.
The remaining 348 bankruptcies were related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. One out of three sole proprietorships that went bankrupt in the first quarter of 2013 were in the construction business.
