Number of bankruptcies on the rise

The number of bankruptcies went up by 14 per cent in the third quarter of 2014 compared with the same quarter of last year. The total number of bankruptcies was 1 035.

The number of bankruptcies increased in all counties except Hedmark, Oppland, Møre og Romsdal and Nord-Trøndelag. The largest rises in percentage terms were in the counties of Finnmark and Sogn og Fjordane, with 60 per cent more bankruptcies in each. The largest increases in absolute figures were in the counties of Hordaland and Akershus, with 34 and 23 more bankruptcies respectively.

Seven out of ten bankruptcies, a total of 745, related to enterprises (except sole proprietorships). Twenty-seven per cent of these enterprises were in wholesale and retail trade. The remaining 290 bankruptcies related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. Thirty-nine per cent of these were in construction.

From January to September of this year, 3 602 bankruptcies were registered. This is an increase of 6 per cent compared with the same period in 2013.
