In the fourth quarter of 2014, the number of bankruptcies went up compared with the same quarter in 2013. In 2014 as a whole, more bankruptcies were registered than the year before.

The total number of bankruptcies in 2014 was 4 803, which is an increase of 5 per cent compared with 2013. The largest rise in percentage terms was in the counties of Aust-Agder, Finnmark and Troms, with 39, 22 and 19 per cent more bankruptcies respectively. Akershus and Oslo were the counties with the largest increase in absolute figures, with 82 and 60 more bankruptcies respectively.

With a drop of 14 per cent, or 32 fewer bankruptcies, Møre og Romsdal was the county with the largest drop in the number of bankruptcies, both in percentage terms and in absolute figures.

Seven out of ten bankruptcies, a total of 3 434, related to enterprises (except sole proprietorships). Twenty-eight per cent of these enterprises were in wholesale and retail trade. The remaining 1 369 bankruptcies related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. Thirty-eight per cent of these were in construction.

In the fourth quarter of 2014, the total number of bankruptcies was 1 201. This is a rise of 4 per cent compared with the same quarter the year before.
