Small decrease in number of bankruptcies

In the first quarter of 2015, the number of bankruptcies remained stable from the first quarter of 2014. A total of 1 294 bankruptcies were registered, which is a decrease of 0.4 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2014.

The largest drop in percentage terms was in the counties of Oppland, Aust-Agder and Finnmark, with 38, 28 and 26 per cent fewer bankruptcies compared with the first quarter in 2014. The largest rise in percentage terms was in the counties of Sogn og Fjordane, Nordland and Buskerud, with 100, 81 and 40 per cent more bankruptcies respectively. These were also the counties with the largest increase in absolute figures, with 13, 34 and 21 more bankruptcies respectively.

Three out of four bankruptcies, a total of 962, related to enterprises (except sole proprietorships). Twenty-six per cent of these enterprises were in wholesale and retail trade. The remaining 332 bankruptcies related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. Forty-one per cent of these were in construction.
