Continued decline in bankruptcies

The number of bankruptcies continues to go down. In the third quarter of 2015, 879 bankruptcies were registered. This is a drop of 15 per cent compared with the third quarter of 2014.

The largest decrease in percentage terms was in the counties of Troms, Nordland and Vest-Agder, with 48, 46 and 44 per cent fewer bankruptcies compared with the third quarter in 2014. Nordland and Vest-Agder also saw the largest drop in absolute figures, along with Akershus, with 24, 24 and 26 fewer bankruptcies respectively.

The number of bankruptcies went down or remained stable in all counties except Hedmark and Oppland, with 15 and 8 per cent more bankruptcies compared with the third quarter in 2014. This corresponds to four and two more bankruptcies respectively.

Three out of four bankruptcies, a total of 652, related to enterprises (except sole proprietorships). Twenty-five per cent of these enterprises were in wholesale and retail trade. The remaining 227 bankruptcies related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. Forty-one per cent of these were in construction.

During the first nine months of 2015, 3 338 bankruptcies were registered. This is a decrease of 7 per cent compared with the same period in 2014.
