Continued decline in bankruptcies
In the first quarter of 2016, the number of bankruptcies was 1 163, which is a drop of 10 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2015. The largest decrease in percentage terms was in the counties of Sogn og Fjordane, Nordland and Troms.

The decrease in bankruptcies in those three counties was 50, 43 and 41 per cent respectively.
The largest fall in absolute figures was in the counties of Nordland, Akershus and Oslo, with 33, 31 and 25 fewer bankruptcies respectively.
In six counties, the number of bankruptcies went up. The largest rise in percentage terms was in the counties of Aust-Agder and Hordaland, with 48 and 21 per cent more bankruptcies respectively. Hordaland is also the county with the largest increase in absolute figures, with 27 more bankruptcies.
Three out of four bankruptcies, a total of 854, related to enterprises (except sole proprietorships). Twenty-five per cent of these enterprises were in wholesale and retail trade, and 25 per cent were in construction. The remaining 309 bankruptcies related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. Forty-two per cent of these were in construction.
