Entrepreneurs of limited companies
One of two new established enterprises have only one entrepreneur. Half of the entrepreneurs had positions on a board or as general manager in other enterprises. 22 per cent of the entrepreneurs were owners of personally owned enterprises.
Statistics Norway has published statistics on owners ofin personally owned enterprises since 2004. With help from the Shareholder Register we have identified the entrepreneur of limited companies. The Shareholder Register contains all shareholders in Norwegian limited companies. The shareholders are identified by personal identification number (persons), organisation number (enterprises), vps account (account number at the Norwegian Central Securities Depository) (can be either person or enterprise) or name (can be either person or enterprise). An enterprise can have one or more entrepreneurs. The entrepreneur can be a person, an enterprise or a combination of different types of shareholders. A limited company can have one or several shareholders. The entrepreneur may be the person who had the business idea, a shareholder or the person who runs the enterprise. The method used to identify the entrepreneur aim at identifying the shareholders in an enterprise that have the role as either general manager or member of the board, or who have a considerable share of the capital stock. If a new enterprise is owned by other enterprises and the other enterprises are owned solely by private individuals, the entrepreneur is identified among these individuals. If the other enterprises do not only have private individuals as shareholders, the entrepreneur will be among the enterprises that are shareholders in the new enterprise. In this statistics, the term entrepreneur covers both private individuals and enterprises. |
In 2004, 10 848 private and public limited companies were set up in Norway. 9 883 (91 per cent) of the enterprises are present in the Shareholder Register and constitute the basis to identify the entrepreneur. More than half of the enterprises only have private individuals as shareholders, 22 per cent only have enterprises as shareholders, while 13,4 per cent are owned by a combination of private individuals and enterprises.
The majority of the enterprises have few entrepreneurs. 48.3 per cent of the new enterprises have one entrepreneur and 31.5 per cent have two. Only 1.4 per cent of have five or more entrepreneurs.
