Slight increase in assessed tax

Total assessed tax for non-personal taxpayers amounted to NOK 138.2 billion in 2001. This was an increase of 4.3 billion, or 3 per cent compared with the previous year.

While assessed tax from offshore activities increased by NOK 6.3 billion, assessed tax from land-based activities decreased by NOK 2 billion compared with 2000. Assessed tax from operations on the continental shelf amounted to NOK 98.7 billion, or 71 per cent of total assessed tax versus 69 per cent the previous year. Assessed tax from shipping companies was NOK 364 million or 63 million more than the year before, while assessed tax from power companies amounted to NOK 4.3 billion or 347 million more than in 2000.

Assessed tax by industry

Leaving out of account continental shelf activities, it was the industry real estate and business activities that contributed the most to total assessed tax with NOK 8.3 billion or 6 per cent. The industry also had the highest number of taxpayers with 27 873 non-personal taxpayers, or 37 per cent of total non-personal taxpayers. Thereafter followed transport and communication with NOK 6.4 billion, domestic trade, hotels and restaurants with 6 billion, manufacturing, mining and quarrying with 5.6 billion and financial intermediation with 4.5 billion in assessed tax.

Decrease in community tax

Total taxable income for non-personal taxpayers amounted to NOK 176.9 billion, a decrease of 700 million from the previous year. This resulted in assessed community tax of NOK 49.5 billion.

Increased deduction in taxes

Total deduction in taxes amounted to NOK 12.8 billion, an increase of 2.2 billion from the year before. Tax deductions include tax deduction for received dividends, tax deduction for tax on natural resources and tax deduction for tax paid to foreign country.

Fewer taxpayers

The number of non-personal taxpayers was 159 625 in 2001, an increase of 3 000 from the previous year. Simultaneously there was a decrease in companies with assessed tax. The number of non-personal taxpayers with assessed tax was 75 833, or about 48 percent of the total share.
