The 236 stillborns in 1995 accounted for 3.9 per 1,000 births. This is the lowest figure for stillborns ever registered in Norway. In 1994 there were 276 stillborns.
In 1995 the number of stillborns dropped for the first time ever to fewer than four per 1,000 births in Norway. Over the past 10 years the ratio has been between four and five. Thirty years ago the percentage of stillborns was three times as high. In 1995, 60,300 live births were registered in Norway. This is 200 more than in 1994 and slightly above the average since 1989. In the first half of the 1980s, there were 10,000 fewer births.
