Aust-Agder also reported the largest increase in women workers, with 4 percent. Oslo had the largest increase in male workers, with 3.7 percent.
From 1994 to 1995 the number of workers in Norway increased by 2.2 percent or 37,600 persons on a national basis. Growth the year before was 1.6 percent. Aust-Agder showed the biggest increase, with 3.6 percent. Finnmark had the lowest growth at 0.8 percent, according to new figures from Statistics Norway's employee statistics by residence from fourth quarter 1995.
Men accounted for 55 percent of the growth in the number of workers on a national basis. In five counties, however, women workers accounted for the biggest share of the growth. In Nord-Trøndelag, 64 percent of new workers were women.
Strongest growth in Eastern Norway
Overall, counties in Eastern Norway reported the greatest growth in the number of workers from fourth quarter 1994 to fourth quarter last year. With the exception of Telemark, all counties in Eastern Norway posted an increase higher than the national average. Of the other counties, only Aust-Agder and Møre & Rømsdal had an increase higher than the national average.
