Infant mortality falls to new low
Infant mortality declined to an all-time low in Norway in 1995. Mortality
in children under one year of age last year fell to four infant deaths per
1,000 live births. This is half the average rate of the 1980s and one of the
lowest known mortality rates in any country. Life expectancy based on deaths in
1995 was 74.8 years for men and 80.8 years for women, about the same as the
year before. Expectancy of life in Norway is still among the highest in
Europe.
