Retail trade volume in Norway excluding motor vehicles and petrol increased 3.5 per cent in August compared to August last year. The price index rose 1.1 per cent during the same period.
The volume of retail trade in stores offering a broad range of merchandise was 4.3 per cent higher in August 1996 than in August last year. In nonstore-based retail trade the volume rose 4.2 per cent. The volume of retail trade in pharmacy goods, nursing aids, cosmetics and toiletries increased by 3.5 per cent. In other sectors of store-based retail trade in new goods the volume rose 2.9 per cent. The volume of food, beverages and tobacco sold in specialty shops went up 2.0 per cent.
