Business increased the most at hotels in urban municipalities, where the number of reservations was up by six per cent compared to the same month last year. The two other hotel groups, country hotels and tourist and mountain resort hotels, saw respective declines of two and four per cent compared to September last year.
Hotel occupancy at Norwegian hotels increased two per cent, from 1.2 million bookings in September last year to 1.22 million in the same month this year. Norwegian business increased by one per cent, while overseas reservations increased by four per cent. The increase was the largest in Oslo, Vest-Agder and Sør-Trøndelag. The other counties had only small changes.
Room rates rose from NOK 574 per room in September last year to NOK 598 in the same month this year. The lodging turnover of hotels also increased, from NOK 477 million in September 1995 to NOK 520 million in September 1996.
The number of reservations in the first nine months of this year is running two per cent ahead of the same period last year. Norwegian bookings have increased by three per cent, while business from foreign markets so far this year has increased by one per cent compared to the same period last year.
