The export surplus of goods and services last year amounted to NOK 96.1 billion, NOK 40.4 billion more than in 1995. Broken down, the January to December 1996 surplus was divided between goods at NOK 88 billion and services at NOK 8.1 billion.
Norway's current account surplus totalled NOK 4.2 billion in December 1996, preliminary figures show. The decline in the surplus compared to November is primarily the result of lower exports of other goods and an increase in interest payments to other countries. The surplus for the entire year was NOK 72.3 billion. In 1995 the surplus was NOK 28.4 billion.
