The goods and services surplus in March 1997 was NOK 8.5 billion, NOK 0.5 billion more than in March in 1996. The distribution of the March 1997 surplus is NOK 8.1 billion for merchandise and NOK 0.3 billion for services.
Preliminary figures show a current account surplus of NOK 6.6 billion in March 1997. The current account surplus is therefore about the same as in February 1997. In March 1996 the surplus was NOK 7.1 billion.
A deficit of NOK 1.8 billion is calculated for the interest and transfers balance for March 1997. For March 1996 the deficit was NOK 0.9 billion.
Revaluation of foreign assets and liabilities, mainly due to currency fluctuations, resulted in a net loss of NOK 4.4 billion for Norway in March 1997. Norway's net foreign assets increased by NOK 2.2 billion in March 1997, and were estimated at NOK 93.6 billion at the end of the month.
