Emma and Filip most popular in 2013
Emma and Filip/Philip/Fillip/Phillip were the most popular names for newborn babies in 2013.
Filip jumped 18 places on the list and William climbed four places to number two. Emma has been popular for a long time, as have the second and third most popular girls’ names; Sara and Sofie. The most popular names in 2012 – Nora and Lucas – dropped to fourth and third place respectively.
The trends with girls’ names ending with “a” or “ah” and Biblical names for the boys are still dominant, but have reached their peak.
Local variations are difficult to find, but Mohammad is still the most popular name for boys in Oslo.
More information can be found in the tables and graphs in the Norwegian text.
