Moderate increase in kindergarten fees

There was a 0.2 per cent increase in kindergarten fees from August 2007 to January 2008. Private kindergarten fees increased by 0.4 per cent, while public kindergarten fees rose by 0.1 per cent. Most kindergartens are now charging the maximum fee of NOK 2330 per month.

Private kindergartens had a 0.4 per cent increase in household payments from August 2007 to January 2008. This marginal change was mainly due to adjustments in boarding expenses and expenditures related to activities, which are paid in addition to the monthly fee.

The 0.1 per cent increase in public kindergarten fees is due to the same reasons. Many local authorities implement changes in user fees at the turn of the year, and this is also the case for kindergarten fees. Some local authorities that did not adjust to the maximum fee in January 2006 have done so now.

The Storting agreed to introduce maximum fees in kindergartens in 2005. In January 2007, the fee was raised to NOK 2330, which will be maintained throughout 2008. Both private and public kindergartens have adapted to this level.
