Higher turnover for hotels

Norway's hotel and restaurant industry had a turnover of NOK 24.3 billion in 1994, up NOK 1 billion or four per cent compared to 1993. The increase is the result of higher turnover in the lodging sector.

The two main groups in the lodging industry, hotels and other lodging facilities, reported respective turnovers of NOK 10.6 billion and NOK 729 million in 1994. The industry increased its overall turnover by 10 per cent compared to 1993.

The turnover of food and drink businesses such as restaurants, bars, food service operations and catering was almost unchanged from 1993 to 1994.

More businesses

The number of businesses increased from 7,441 in 1993 to 7,756 in 1994. This is an increase of nearly four per cent. The increase was especially great in the restaurant and food service operations groups.

Employment in the industry increased from 58,870 people in 1993 to 62,806 in 1994, an increase of nearly seven per cent.
