Road traffic accidents involving personal injury, October 1996:

Fewer die in traffic accidents in October


Twenty-six persons lost their lives in road accidents in Norway in October. In October last year 31 persons were killed. So far this year traffic accidents have claimed 214 lives, 34 fewer compared to the same period last year.

Ten of those killed were in the age group 15 to 24, while eight persons were killed in each of the age groups 25 to 64 and over 64. The number of motorists and car passengers killed totalled 18. Other traffic fatalities in October included one motorcyclist, one moped driver and six pedestrians. Four of the pedestrians killed were older than 64.

According to the first overview, 884 persons were injured in traffic accidents in October. The comparative overview last year listed 894 injured. Preliminary statistics so far in 1996 put the number of injured persons at 9,377. Comparative figures in 1995 showed 9,396 injured.
