Increasing production of farmed fish

Preliminary figures show that sales of farmed salmon in the first half of 1996

were 18 per cent higher compared to the same period the year before. Calculated in tons, farm stocks were up 19 per cent on 30 June 1996 against the same date in 1995. A total of 135,000 tons of salmon and 8,900 tons of rainbow trout were sold in the first half of 1996.

Production of both salmon and trout increased. In terms of percentage, output of rainbow trout increased the most. Sales of rainbow trout were 45 per cent higher in the first half of 1995 compared to the same time the year before.
