The number of people entitled to vote in this autumn's election will increase by about 54,000 compared to the 1993 general election, but is 60,000 less than in the local elections in 1995. In a Storting election, only Norwegians citizens have the right to vote; in local elections foreign citizens may vote if they have been registered as a resident of Norway for the last three years and otherwise comply with the conditions that apply to Norwegian citizens.
Nearly 3,314,000 people will have the right to vote in Norway's Storting (general) election this autumn. This is about 54,000 more than in the last parliamentary election four years ago. One hundred and four thousand new voters will be able to cast their ballots for the first time and around half of all voters reside in Eastern Norway.
