Last month's fatalities included 14 motorists. Six were between 19 and 24 years of age, five from 26 to 38, one in his 50s and two over 70. The other fatalities included five passengers, two motorcyclists, three cyclists, one pedestrian and one other road-user.
Twenty-six people lost their lives in road traffic accidents in Norway in May, the same number as last year and one more than the average for the last five years. According to the first overview, 798 people were injured in car accidents in May this year. The corresponding overview last year listed the number injured at 777.
Traffic accidents have claimed 107 lives from January to May this year, 15 more than in the same period last year, but four under the average for the period 1992 to 1996.
