The goods and services surplus in July 1997 was NOK 7 billion, while it was NOK 5.7 billion in July 1996. In July 1997 the merchandise balance showed a surplus of NOK 7.2 billion, while services showed a deficit of NOK 0.2 billion.
Preliminary figures show a current account surplus of NOK 5.3 billion in July 1997, up from NOK 4.9 billion in July 1996. The current account surplus for January to July 1997 amounted to NOK 40.5 billion, while it totalled NOK 42 billion during the same period in 1996.
The interest and transfers balance in July 1997 showed a deficit of NOK 1.8 billion, compared to a deficit of NOK 0.8 billion in July 1996.
Revaluation of assets and liabilities, mainly due to exchange rate fluctuations, handed Norway a net loss of NOK 6.8 billion in July 1997. Norway's net foreign assets fell NOK 1.6 billion in July 1997 and were estimated at NOK 87.2 billion at the end of the month.
