Higher material costs

The cost of materials for plumbing work increased 1.2 per cent from September to October 1997 for undetached houses and apartments, while it climbed 1.1 per cent for single-family homes.

The total cost of plumbing work rose during the same period by 0.9 per cent for undetached houses and by 0.8 per cent for single-family homes and apartments. Total material and building costs increased very little this month.

Total material costs climbed 3.3 per cent for row houses and three per cent for single-family homes and apartments from October 1996 to October 1997. Total building costs went up 2.4 per cent for single-family homes, 2.3 per cent for row houses and 2.1 per cent for apartments.
