National accounts and environment, 1991-1994:

Lower emissions from the transport sector

The transport sector posted the biggest reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases compared to the added value created from 1991 to 1994. The level is, however, still higher than in manufacturing and mining, according to Statistics Norway's estimates of the financial results and environmental consequences of various industries.
Manufacturing and transport factor in global warming

Of seven industries' proportional contribution to the gross domestic product and their contribution to selected environmental problems, manufacturing and mining accounted for the largest contributions to global warming. The transport industry also makes a substantial contribution to acidity and global warming. However, the primary industries contribute relatively more to global warming and acid rain than to the GDP.

Oil and gas production accounts for nearly 50 per cent of Norway's emissions of Non-Methane Volatile Organic Carbon (NMVOC). This industry also has the highest NMVOC emissions per krone of gross product.
