Increase in women working full time
From the 2nd quarter of 2013 to the 2nd quarter of 2014, the number of women working full time increased by 35 000. The number of part-time employed women decreased by 16 000 during the same period.

Among men, the number in full-time employment increased by 27 000 persons from the 2nd quarter of 2013 to the 2nd quarter of 2014, while the number of part-time employed men decreased by 9 000. A large part of the decrease was among young people – both men and women – in education. Despite the increase in the number of women working full time, the share in full-time employment remained much higher among men than women. In the 2nd quarter of 2014, the share of full-time employed men and women was 86 and 61 per cent respectively.
Small changes in labour force participation
The labour force participation rate among the population aged 15-74 years was 71.3 per cent in the 2nd quarter of 2014. This was a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from the same quarter of the previous year. The decrease was among the under-25s, and was due to fewer young men and women combining part-time work with studying. However, labour force participation increased among the 30-66 year-olds from the 2nd quarter of 2013 to the same quarter of 2014. The increase was strongest among those aged 55 years or older, especially with regard to women.
Stable share of employees with temporary jobs
In the 2nd quarter of 2014, 8 per cent of employees had a temporary job – unchanged from the same quarter in the previous year. In public administration, the share of employees with a temporary job decreased from 8 per cent in the 2nd quarter of 2013 to 5 per cent in the same quarter of 2014. Among the industries dominated by the private sector, the use of temporary jobs is most widespread in accommodation and food service activities, with 13 per cent of employees having a temporary job in the 2nd quarter of 2014. Among the industries dominated by the public sector, this kind of work is most widespread in human health and social work service activities and education. In each of these two industries, 12 per cent of the employees had temporary jobs in the 2nd quarter of 2014.
Stable share of long-term unemployed
The LFS shows that there were 91 000 unemployed persons in the 2nd quarter of 2014 and that 31 per cent of them were long-term unemployed. In the 2nd quarter of 2013, 32 per cent of the unemployed were long-term unemployed. The long-term unemployed are persons who have been unemployed for more than 26 weeks. The average period of time an unemployed person is unemployed was 28 weeks in the 2nd quarter of 2014; one week longer than in the same quarter the previous year.
