Increased employment in municipalities

The number of employed in municipal activities increased by 4 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2006 to fourth quarter of 2007. Preliminary figures show that 428 000 people are employed in municipal activities. In comparison, the counties employed 45 700 people.

In 2007, health and social services accounted for 43 per cent of the contracted man-years in the municipalities, while primary and lower secondary school accounted for 28 per cent.

Upper secondary schools account for 83 per cent of the contracted man-years in the counties.
