Increase in employees in municipal activities

The number employed in the municipalities increased by 10 700 persons in 2009 compared to 2008.

Nearly 490 000 persons were employed by the counties or the municipalities in the 4t h quarter of 2009. This is an increase of 2.2 per cent compared to 2008.

More than 90 per cent of the employees were employed by the municipalities. Due to a high degree of part-time working, this amounts to 337 000 contracted man-years. The total growth in contracted man-years was 0.8 per cent from 2008 to 2009. The figures presented are preliminary. Final figures will be published in June 2010.

41 per cent of man-years in health and social services

More than 41 per cent of the contracted man-years or a total of 139 000 contracted man-years are in the health and social services. The contracted man-years in kindergartens increased by 2.4 per cent compared to 2008.

Increased number of employees in the counties

A total of 46 000 were employed within the counties in 2009, totalling 40 100 contracted man-years. This is an increase of 1.4 per cent compared to 2008. Upper secondary education amounts to a total of 83 per cent of the contracted man-years in the counties, while dental health services amount to 6 per cent. This picture has been largely unchanged over the last 5 years.
