Monthly earnings increased by NOK 900

Full-time municipal and county municipal employees outside Oslo had average monthly earnings of NOK 21 800 per 1 October 2000. This corresponds to an increase of just over NOK 900 or 4.4 per cent from the same time the year before.

Average monthly earnings of full-time administrative employees were about NOK 22 200 as of October 2000. This represented an increase in monthly earnings of just over NOK 900 or 4.3 per cent from the year before. Senior officials had average monthly earnings of NOK 27 500, an increase of almost NOK 1 200 or 4.4 per cent. In comparison, administrative employees performing qualified independent work had monthly earnings of about NOK 21 800 or just over NOK 700 more than at the same time the year before. This group includes executive officers, senior executive officers, department managers etc. Administrative employees performing routine tasks had monthly earnings of about NOK 18 000, an increase of just over NOK 600 or 3.4 per cent. The latter group includes clerks and secretaries.

Technical employees

In comparison, technical employees in full-time positions had monthly earnings of NOK 22 400, an increase of about NOK 1 000 or 4.6 per cent from the same time the year before. In this group, senior technical employees such as senior engineers, head architects and zone managers had monthly earnings of NOK 25 900, an increase of just over NOK 900 or 3.7 per cent. In comparison, technical employees with qualified and independent work such as department engineers, radiologists and operation managers had monthly earnings of NOK 22 200, an increase of almost NOK 1 000 or 4.5 per cent.

Service occupations

Full-time workers in service occupations had average monthly earnings of just over NOK 18 600 at 1 October 2000. This corresponds to an increase of just about NOK 800 or 4.4 per cent from the year before. Full-time employees in senior positions had monthly earnings of NOK 24 100, which corresponded to an increase of just over NOK 1 200 or 5.4 per cent. This group includes headmasters of music schools, librarians, chief municipal agricultural and forestry officers and district heads. In comparison, employees in subordinate service positions had monthly earnings of NOK 16 800, an increase of about NOK 500 or 3 per cent. Employees in this occupational group include assistants in kindergartens and health institutions, home helpers and cleaners.

Client treatment

Average monthly earnings of employees who work with clients were NOK 23 900, an increase of almost NOK 1 000 or 4.5 per cent from the year before. Full-time employees in qualified independent occupations made up just over half of all employees involved in treating clients, a group of employees that includes various nursing positions, milieu therapists, department managers and midwives. Average monthly earnings for the group were just over NOK 21 900, an increase of NOK 1 000 from the year before, or 4.8.

Occupational groups involved in working with clients include everything from nursing assistants, home counsellors for mentally handicapped persons, auxiliary nurses, professional nurses and milieu workers to doctors, dentists and psychologists. These occupational groups made up about one-third of all full-time employees in the municipal and county municipal sector.

About the statistical basis

Employees in Oslo and employees in power production, power supply and teaching personnel in the school system are not included in the statistical basis. The wage settlement in the municipal sector in the spring of 2000 provided an annual increase of NOK 5 000 from 1 May 2000 for each scale grade. The central wage adjustment negotiations set aside a further 1.1 per cent from 1 May 2000. Effective 1 August 2000, a total of 1.5 per cent was set aside for local negotiations.
