1.3 per cent wage growth in manufacturing
The quarterly wage index for full-time employees in the manufacturing industry shows a 1.3 per cent increase in monthly earnings from the 2nd quarter 2001 to the 3rd quarter 2001. The increase from the 3rd quarter 2000 to the 3rd quarter 2001 was 4.6 per cent.
The increase in monthly earnings for employees in the construction industry was 0.2 per cent from the 2nd quarter 2001 to the 3rd quarter 2001. The corresponding growth for employees in transport and communication was 1.7 per cent in the same period. Employees in oil and gas extraction and mining received a 3.1 per cent increase in their monthly earnings from the 2nd quarter 2001 to the 3rd quarter 2001. Employees in wholesale and retail trade received a 2.6 increase in their monthly earnings from the 2nd quarter 2001 to the 3rd quarter 2001, while the corresponding growth for employees in real estate and business activities was 1.2 per cent in the same period.
Change over a year
Employees in manufacturing had a 4.6 per cent growth in monthly earnings from the 3rd quarter 2000 to the 3rd quarter 2001. The corresponding growth for employees in oil and gas extraction and mining was 7.6 per cent, while employees in transport and communication had a growth of 5.4 per cent. Employees in the construction had an increase of 4.2 per cent, employees in wholesale and retail trade had an increase of 6.2 per cent in the same period, while those in real estate and business activities had a growth of 4.4 per cent from the 3rd quarter 2000 to the 3rd quarter 2001.
Sample
The sample for the 3rd quarter of 2001 includes approx. 340 700 full-time employees, broken down into 21 800 in oil and gas extraction and mining, 106 800 in manufacturing, 36 100 in construction, 41 300 in transport and communication, 86 700 in wholesale and retail trade and 48 000 in real estate and business activities. By comparison, the preliminary figures in the national accounts for the 3rd quarter of 2001 show that there are about 27 000 persons employed in oil and gas extraction and mining, 292 000 in manufacturing, 108 000 in construction, 119 000 in transport and communication, 314 000 in wholesale and retail trade and 171 000 in real estate and business activities. The figures from the national accounts also include part-time employees.
