Wages in manufacturing up 1.4 per cent
The quarterly wage index for full-time employees in manufacturing shows a 1.4 per cent increase in monthly earnings from the fourth quarter of 2004 to the first quarter of 2005.
The increase in monthly earnings for employees in electricity supply was 0.3 per cent from the 4th quarter 2004 to the 1st quarter 2005. The corresponding growth for employees in the real estate and business activities was 0.5 per cent in the same period, while the increase for employees in the construction industry came to 0.3 per cent. Employees in wholesale and retail trade received an increase of 1.0 per cent in their monthly earnings from the 4th quarter 2004 to the 1st quarter 2005. The growth for employees in transport and communication was 1.9 per cent. Employees in hotels and restaurants had an increase of 1.0 per cent, while the employees in oil and gas extraction and mining had a 5.6 per cent increase in their monthly earnings from the 4th quarter to the 1st quarter this year. The high increase in monthly earnings in oil and gas extraction and mining, can partly be explained by high bonus payments.
Sample
The quarterly wage index for the 1st quarter of 2005 is build on the basis of reports from a representative sample of enterprises grouped according to employment and industry. Summaries of full-time employees that are included in the statistics are listed in table 6 .
