Increases in sick and maternity leave benefits continue

Total paid benefits for sick and maternity leave amounted to NOK 11.7 billion inn 2000, according to preliminary figures. This is an increase of approx. NOK 1.2 billion or 11.4 per cent from 1999, in comparison the increase from 1998 to 1999 was NOK 1.3 billion or 14.1 per cent.

A total of about 305 500 persons received sick leave or maternity leave benefits in 2000, which is 11 500 more than in 1999. These benefits exclusively cover disbursements through the national social security system, and do not cover benefits paid by government employers or payments to the self- employed. Disbursements of maternity and sick leave benefits to Central or Local government employees are incorporated in the total paid wages, remuneration etc. Disbursements of benefits for sick leave and maternity leave to 38 000 self-employed amounted to NOK 1.6 billion in 2000

Wages and remuneration

Total paid wages; remuneration etc. amounted to NOK 522.8 billion in 2000. This is an increase of NOK 22 billion or 4.4 per cent from 1999. 2 593 000 persons received wages, remuneration etc. in 2000, which is approx. 8 000 more than in 1999.

The statistics are based on preliminary figures from the register on End of the Year Certificates for the year 2000. They cover all persons who have received an end of the year certificate and all enterprises that employ persons and which are obligated by law to report to the register.
