Monthly earnings increased by NOK 1 400

Full-time employees in private education had average monthly earnings of NOK 25 400 per 1 October 2001, an increase of NOK 1 400 or 5.7 per cent compared with the corresponding month the year before.

Average monthly earnings for full-time employees in private primary education were nearly NOK 22 000, an increase of NOK 1 200 or 5.6 per cent. For employees in private secondary education monthly earnings totalled NOK 26 100, an increase of NOK 1 500 or 5.9 per cent. Corresponding monthly earnings for employees at private universities and colleges were NOK 28 900, an increase of NOK 1 650 or 6 per cent. For full-time employees in adult and other education monthly earnings were NOK 23 500, an increase of NOK 1 200 or 5.2 per cent.

Teaching staff

In private education professionals and schoolteachers with a university degree had average monthly earnings of NOK 28 300. This was NOK 2 100 or 7.9 per cent more than the year before. Other teachers, technicians and associated professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 24 200, an increase of NOK 1 200 or 5 per cent.

In private secondary schools, where more than one third of all teaching staff in private education are working, professionals and schoolteachers with a university degree had average monthly earnings of NOK 28 000. This was an increase of NOK 1 600 or 6 per cent. Other teachers, technicians and associated professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 25 400, an increase of NOK 1 400 or 5.9 per cent compared with October 2000.

Estimated annual earnings increased with 5.7 per cent

Full-time employees in private education had estimated average annual earnings of NOK 301 500 in 2001. This corresponded to an increase of 5.7 per cent from 2000. For full-time employees in primary education average annual earnings were NOK 260 100, an increase of 5.3 per cent. The average annual earnings in private secondary schools and private universities and colleges were NOK 309 300 and 343 700, respectively, an increase of 5.6 and 6.4 per cent from 2000. Full-time employees in adult and other education had average annual earnings of NOK 278 800, an increase of 5.2 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises which cover a total of 3 977 full-time employees and 2 038 part-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the third quarter 2001, the statistics roughly cover15 600 employees in private education.
