Old farmers and young shop assistants
There is a high rate of older employed persons among farmers, while young people are over-represented among shop salespersons. These are some of the results from the Labour Force Survey (LFS) 2003.
Occupations with a high rate of older employed persons
Employed persons aged 55-74 make up 17 per cent of all employed persons. At 30 per cent, farmers have the highest rate of older employed persons. Occupations as different as manager and cleaner both have a high rate of older employed persons, at 21 and 22 per cent respectively.
Occupations with a high rate of young employed persons
Employed persons aged 16-24 make up 12 per cent of all employed persons. Shop salespersons have the highest rate with 37 per cent in this age group, followed by labourers in construction and manufacturing with 29 per cent.
