Continued rise in the number of shop staff
The number of employed persons in Norwegian shops totalled 177 000 in 2004, an increase of 11 000 compared with the figures for 2003.
Shop salesperson is the most common occupation in the working population as a whole and among young people. In 2004, people aged 16-24 years made up 37 per cent of the employed persons in this occupation. This compares with 12 per cent for the total working population.
In the occupational group Professionals, the number of employed persons increased by 16 000 to 267 000. The figures for the group Plant and machine operators and assemblers decreased by 9000 to 166 000.
