Strong increase in bond issues
In 2006, bonds issued in the Norwegian market amounted to NOK 253.6 billion, an increase of NOK 101.7 billion or 67 per cent compared with 2005.
Bank bonds still dominate the market with 28.2 per cent of the total. The banks' share of the total has decreased since 2005, whereas other sectors have had a strong increase, for instance mortgage companies and foreigners in Norway.
Total bond debt amounted to NOK 732.9 billion in 2006, an increase of NOK 138.5 billion or 23.3 per cent. Banks increased their total bond debt by NOK 26.8 billion or 12.8 per cent. Bank debt amounted to 32 per cent of the total bond debt in the Norwegian market.
Central government had the highest increase in bond debt with NOK 32 billion in 2006. Municipal enterprises had the largest decrease in bond debt.
