Increase in issues of bonds
Issues of bonds increased by 13.6 per cent in the 3 r d quarter 2003 compared with the corresponding period last year. Saving banks are most dominating in the bond market with an issue of NOK 8.4 billion, which is 32.5 per cent of the total bond issue.
During the third quarter this yearthe total amount of bond issues in Norway was NOK 26 billion, an increase of NOK 3.1 billion, or 13.6 per cent from third quarter last year. Commercial banks issued NOK 4.3 billion worth of bonds, a decrease of NOK 0.7 billion, or 13.9 per cent compared with 3rd quarter 2002. Saving banks issued NOK 8.4 billion, which represents 32.5 per cent of the total bond issues this quarter.
Issues of commercial papers decreased by 9.5 per cent
Issues of commercial papers decreased by NOK 7.4 billion, or 9.5 per cent compared with 3rd quarter 2002. During 3rd quarter 2003, the total amount of commercial paper issues in Norway was NOK 70.4 billion. The issues of commercial papers at the same time last year amounted to NOK 77.9 billion. The Central government issues increased by NOK 14.5 billion, or 67.4 per cent compared to the corresponding period 2002. Except from Municipalities, the other sectors decreased strongly.
Issues abroad in NOK and foreign currency
Statistics on issues of bonds and commercial papers offered abroad in NOK and foreign currency are obtained from the Bank of Norway.
The statistics show that issues during the 3rd quarter 2003 amounted to NOK 59.3 billion. Mortgage companies are the largest borrowers in the foreign market, with NOK 36.2 billion.
