Net purchases of equity and bond fund shares
During the 3rd quarter, the total share capital of mutual funds managed by Norwegian fund managers increased by NOK 33.3 billlion. Especially net purchases of equity and bond fund shares, and a value increase in the funds’ holdings of mutual fund shares explains the increase.

The share capital of mutual funds managed by Norwegian fund managers increased by NOK 33.3 billion during the 3rd quarter of 2016, reaching a total value of NOK 1010.8 billion at the end of the period. This corresponds to a 3.4 per cent increase during the period. The change in total share capital is largely due to an increase in net purchases of equity and bond fund shares. The share capital of these fund types rose by NOK 19.3 billion and NOK 7.4 billion respectively during the period. This corresponds to a 4.1 and 2.7 per cent increase respectively.
Net purchases of mutual fund and bond fund shares
Statistics Norway observes NOK 14.8 billion worth of net purchases of mutual fund shares during the quarter, out of which net purchases of equity fund and bond fund shares totaled NOK 6 billion and NOK 4.5 billion respectively. Other sectors only had minor purchases and sales of mutual funds, totaling up to net sales of NOK 0.5 billion. Foreigners were the biggest net sellers of equity fund shares, net selling for NOK 0.7 billion. The biggest net purchasers of bond fund shares in the period were financial enterprises, net buying NOK 3 billion worth of shares. Foreigners also net purchased NOK 0.7 billion worth of bond funds.
Increase in mutual funds holdings of other mutual fund shares
The value of all assets held by mutual funds increased by NOK 33.3 billion during the 3rd quarter of 2016. This corresponds to a 3.4 per cent increase. The biggest value increase is found in the mutual funds’ holdings of other mutual fund shares, with a NOK 13.3 billion increase during the period. This corresponds to a 8.5 per cent value increase. The funds’ holdings of bond fund shares also increased by NOK 10.5 billion, corresponding with a 3 per cent increase.
