10 million square metres started in 2007
Final figures show that building of 10 049 000 square metres of utility floor space were started during 2007. The level of building-starts has not been higher in Norway since 1986.
Compared with 1986 building for other than residential purposes, mainly industrial buildings, is at the highest level ever registered. Started floor space for dwelling purposes is substantial lower.
In 2007, a total of 4 025 000 square metres of utility floor space were started for dwellings and 6 024 000 square metres for non-residential purposes. The floor space for industrial buildings has increased the most compared with 2006 - up 26.7 per cent to 4 578 000 square metres. Started floor space for dwellings is almost at the same level as in 2006.
Decreased building of dwellings in major cities
In Oslo, 3 069 dwellings were started during 2007 - down by 31.3 per cent from the high level in 2006. Followed by Oslo - Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim are the municipalities with the highest number of dwellings started. In these three cities there was a drop of dwelling-starts from 2006 by 16.5, 14.9 and 45.2 per cent respectively.
Most new flats in multi dwelling buildings
During 2007, a total of 32 520 dwellings were started. 15 504 of these were flats in multi-dwelling buildings. Oslo has the highest level of building-starts of flats in multi-dwelling buildings - 85.4 per cent of the started dwellings in Oslo in 2007 were a flat. Sogn og Fjordane has the highest proportion of detached houses. 44.0 per cent of the started dwellings in this county were detached houses in 2007.
New dwellings between 50 and 79 square metres most common
Almost a third of the dwellings started in 2007 have a utility floor space between 50 and 79 square metres, followed by dwellings with a floor space between 80 and 119 square metres. In total, 54.8 per cent of the new dwellings in 2007 were in these two size groups. This is related to the high building of flats in multi-dwelling buildings.
Conversion to new property registerAs of 5 November 2007 the municipalities will be transferred in groups from the Ground Parcel, Address and Building Register (GAB) to the new property register, Matrikkelen. All municipalities will be transferred by the end of February 2009. In connection with the conversion there may be some delay in the registration of the municipalities that are being transferred. The Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority has an overview of transfer dates for each municipality . |
