Turnover in construction totalled 151 billion

The turnover of local kind-of-activity units (KAUs) in the construction industry, including state- and municipal-owned units, rose by 5.6 per cent to NOK 151.1 billion from 2001 to 2002.

The construction industry employed 134 335 persons in 2002. This is a decrease by 0.3 per cent from 2001. Wage costs rose by 5.1 per cent and amounted to NOK 40.2 billion in 2002. The investments in the construction industry decreased by 8.0 per cent from 2001 to 2002. All amounts exclude VAT.

Industrial groups

Almost half of the employees in the construction industry are employed in the industrial group "Building of complete constructions or parts thereof; civil engineering". The number of employees in this group decreased by 1.5 per cent to 65 397 persons and the wage costs increased by 5.8 per cent. The turnover rose by 7.8 per cent to NOK 86.3 billion in 2002.

The local kind-of-activity units in the industrial group "Building installation" employed 41 778 persons in 2002. This is an increase by 0.1 per cent from 2001. In this group the turnover rose by 1.0 per cent to NOK 40.4 billion in the same period.
