Good result for power industry in 2001
The power industry had a very good result inn 2001, but there were large differences in the operating margin between the different types of plants. The production plants had an operating margin of 52.6 per cent, while the wholesale plants had a negative operating margin of 6.1 per cent. The operating result for the power industry was NOK 17.9 billions, which is an increase of 53.6 per cent from 2000.
The increase in the power prices led to high operating revenues in the power industry in 2001. The operating margin, which indicates the ratio of the operating result come to of operating revenue, was 19.7 per cent. This is an increase of 2 percentage points from 2000. The operating margin for the different types of plants varied considerably. As in previous years the production plants had the largest operating margin. These plants had an operating margin of 52.6 per cent, while the wholesale plants had a negative operating margin of 6.1 per cent. The profit in the power industry increased by 37.9 per cent from 2000 and was NOK 9.3 billions in 2001.
Increase in prices
Average end-user price for all consumption groups was NOK 0.387/kWh in 2001, which is an increase of 12.5 per cent from 2000. There was no large change in the tariff of distribution. The average price of the distribution was NOK 0.179/kWh, which is an increase of NOK 0.004/kWh from 2000. There was a large difference in the tariff of distribution for households. The energy tax rose from NOK 0.0856/kWh to NOK 0.113/kWh in 2001. The total average power bill for households, which consist of the power price, tariff of distribution and public taxes (energy tax and VAT), was NOK 0.489/kWh. This is a price increase of 16.2 per cent from 2000. The rise in the power price and public taxes contributed the most to the price increase.
Increase in the consumption of power
The total net consumption was 113.3 TWh in 2001, which was an increase of 2.1 per cent from 2000. Households and agriculture had a net consumption of 38.1 TWh, which was an increase of 3.7 per cent from 2000. The consumption in this sector has increased relative much for the last 10 years. The manufacturing, in addition to paper and paper products manufacturing, had a net consumption of 41.9 TWh in 2001, which was 1.9 per cent more than in 2000. Paper and paper manufacturing decreased their net consumption by 17.6 per cent from 2000. Net consumption in this sector was 6.6 TWh. The service industries had a net consumption of 24.7 TWh in 2001. This is an increase of 6.4 per cent from 2000 and the consumption in this sector has also increased quite a bit for the last 10 years.
