Increased investments in 2001
Estimates for the investment activity show a 7 per cent increase in 2001 compared with corresponding figures for 2000, according to Statistics Norway's investment survey for the 4th quarter covering Manufacturing, Mining and Quarrying and Electricity supply. Estimates for 2000 are NOK 17.7 billion a 2 per cent reduction compared with 1999.
The expected level of investments for 2001 has increased by 25 per cent compared with estimates reported last quarter. For manufacturing, mining and quarrying the increase is 27 per cent. This is the largest increase in estimates from the 3rd to the 4th quarter since 1996. Positive signals from the settlement of the national budget, with the continuation of the exemption from the electricity tax for the manufacturing industry, may have contributed to the growth in the estimates.
Investment estimates for 2000 are reduced by 4 per cent since the last quarter and are a total of NOK 17.7 billion. This is a 2 per cent reduction compared with figures for 1999 reported in the 4th quarter last year.
