Small decrease in manufacturing turnover

The turnover in Norwegian manufacturing decreased by 0.3 per cent in the period September to November compared to the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures. Turnover in the domestic market rose by 4.5 per cent, while turnover in the export market fell by 7.1 per cent.

The strong decrease is due to a drop in prices of some industrial groupings with large export shares, such as the chemical industry and metals. For more information on price developments in the manufacturing industry, see Producer price index .

Turnover in Norwegian manufacturing remains high

The turnover in the Norwegian manufacturing industries remains at a very high level in a historical perspective despite the moderate decline in seasonally adjusted figures in the last three-month period. Total turnover so far in 2007 amounts to NOK 729 billion according to unadjusted figures. This is an increase of 10.8 per cent compared to November 2006. The domestic and export markets have contributed equally to this development.

The main industrial groupings intermediate goods and capital goods both had an increase in turnover of 1.2 per cent in the last three-month period. The decrease in turnover of capital goods is mainly a result of a 9.6 per cent decrease for oil platforms. Consumer goods experienced an increase of 0.9 per cent, which was due to a 2.2 per cent increase in turnover in the domestic market.

Decrease for intermediate goods continues

Turnover of intermediate goods fell by 1.2 per cent in the last three month-period. The turnover in the export market fell by 5.9 per cent mainly due to a weak development in international metal prices. Basic chemicals were also an important contributor to this decrease with a drop of 7.7 per cent, mainly due to the strong fall in the domestic market with 18.4 per cent.
