Sustained growth in turnover

Seasonally adjusted figures show that total turnover in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 4.6 per cent from December 2007 to February 2008 compared with the previous three-month period. Turnover in the export market and the domestic market rose by 11.2 and 1.4 per cent respectively.

Seasonally adjusted figures show that producers of capital goods increased their turnover by 8 per cent from December 2007 to February 2008 compared with the previous three-month period. Oil platforms and the machine industry had the strongest increase with 16.7 and 13 per cent respectively. Electrical and optical equipment also contributed to the increase with a growth in turnover of 8.4 per cent. The turnover fell by 5.4 per cent in the transport equipment industry.

The turnover of intermediate goods rose by 0.5 per cent in the same period. Refined petroleum products and chemical products had the strongest growth in turnover with 6 per cent. Basic metals had an increase of 1.1 per cent. Producers of wood and wood products, pulp, paper and paper products reported a fall in the turnover of 5 and 4.7 per cent respectively.

The total turnover of consumer goods increased by 1.7 per cent from December 2007 to February 2008 compared with the previous three-month period, led by increased turnover of food products, beverages and tobacco, which rose by 3.9 per cent.

Seasonally adjusted figures show that from January 2008 to February 2008 the total turnover in manufacturing rose by 2.5 per cent. The strongest growth was seen in capital goods with 6.9 per cent.
