Growth in turnover

Total turnover in Norwegian manufacturing was 3.9 per cent higher in the period from May to July 2008 compared to the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

Total turnover rose by 6.5 per cent in the export market and by 5.1 per cent in the domestic market. The growth in total turnover is a result of both increased volume (see Index of Production ) and price developments (see Producer price index ).

High turnover for producers of capital goods

The turnover of capital goods rose by 4.5 per cent from May to July compared to the previous three-months period. Turnover in the domestic market increased by 10.6 per cent, while export turnover went up by 3.7 per cent. Machinery and equipment were the main contributors to this positive development. Transport equipment turnover maintained a high level due to deliveries of large projects.

The turnover of intermediate goods increased by 2.3 per cent in the same period. The domestic marked went up by 3.5 per cent and the export market rose by 2.2 per cent. The main contributors to this upturn were refined petroleum products, and chemicals and chemical products, rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products and parts of fabricated metal products, while turnover in non-ferrous metals decreased.

The turnover of consumer goods rose by 2.1 per cent. The domestic market went up by 2.6 per cent, while turnover in the export market decreased by 0.4 per cent. Food products and publishing, printing and reproduction contributed most to the increase.
