Small decrease in petroleum production
The total petroleum production on the Norwegian Continental Shelf in the first half of 2009 amounted to 120.7 million Sm3 oil equivalents (oe). Compared to the same period in 2008, this is a decrease by 1 per cent.
The total production of oil amounted to 57.5 million Sm3 oe in the first six months of 2009, a decrease by 4.9 per cent or 2.8 million Sm3 oe. There are 56 fields that produce oil, three more then for the same period last year. Yttergryta and Rev started production in January, and Alve started in March. The largest oil producing field is Ekofisk that started its production in 1971, in the fist half of 2009 it produced 5.7 million Sm3 oe.
Gas production
The production of natural gas had a small increase in the fist half of 2009. Production ended up at 52.9 million Sm3 oe, an increase by 2.6 per cent or 1.4 million Sm3 compared with to the same period in 2008. Natural gas production made up 43.8 per cent of the total petroleum production. Three new fields started gas production previous year: Yttergryta, Rev and Alve.
