Decreased petroleum production in 2010

The production of gas and oil (including condensate and NGL) ended at 230 Sm3 million oil equivalents (o.e.) in 2010. This is a decrease by about four percent compared to 2009.

Total Oil production (including Condensate and NGL). Januar - December. 1995-2010. 1 000 Sm3

The Norwegian oil production peaked in 2000, when production ended at 181 million Sm3 o.e. In the following years the production declined. In 2010 production ended at 104 million Sm3 o.e., 77 million Sm3 o.e. or 43 per cent less than in 2000. This development has taken place despite that there where 27 more oil producing fields on the Norwegian continental shelf in 2010 compared to 2000. There where 63 fields that produced oil in 2010. By comparing 2010 to 2009, the reduction in the production equals 11 million Sm3 o.e or 9.6 per cent. The production of oil in 2010 accounted for more than 45 percent of the total petroleum production. If the production of NGL and condensate are included, the share is just under 54 per cent.

Increased gas production

The development in the gas production has been different from the development in the oil production. Norway started producing gas in 1977 and since then, the production been increasing almost every year. In 2000 the gas production amounted to 50 million Sm3 o.e. By 2010, the production more than doubled to around 106 million Sm3 o.e In 2010 the gas production made out 46 percent of the total petroleum production; in 2000 the share was 20 per cent. If we compare 2010 with 2009, the gas production increased with 2.8 million Sm3 o.e or 2.8 per cent.
