Increased NGL and gas production contributes to growth in total production of petroleum
In spite of falling oil production, increased gas production contributed to growth in the total petroleum production in the first nine months of 2012.
In the nine fist months of 2012, the gas production amounted to 83.8 million Sm3 o.e. This is 10.9 million Sm3 o.e or 14.9 per cent more than the fist nine months last year. The production of gas equalled 50 per cent of the total petroleum production. The oil production equalled 40 per cent, while NGL and condensate made out 8 and 2 per cent respectively.
Three new fields started gas production in 2012; Islay, Gaupe and Marulk
Decreased oil production
The Norwegian oil production peaked in 2000, in the following years the production have declined. In the first nine months of 2012 the oil production ended at 67.7 million Sm3 o.e., this is 5.4 million Sm3 o.e. or 7.4 per cent less then in the same period in 2011.
The production of NGL ended at 13.3 million Sm3 o.e., 11.7 per cent more than the same period last year. Production of condensate ended at 3.4 million Sm3 o.e, a 1.9 per cent decrease.
Production of oil including NGL and condensate ended at 84.4 million Sm3 o.e., 4.5 per cent or 4 million Sm3 o.e less than the first nine months last year.
Ekofisk was the most productive oil field. Five new oil fields started production during 2012; Alta, Gaupe, Islay, Marulk and Oselvar.
